Africa Family Safari by Private Jet
The parents of two adult children wanted an exciting family vacation in Africa that followed the Great Migration in Kenya and Tanzania. They left other plans, accommodations, and suggested activities up to our travel consultant. The family flew via commercial air to Rwanda, and then traveled between destinations on a privately chartered plane. You could do the same on your own custom journey on a luxury African safari tour.
Kigali Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda
After arriving to Kigali and spending a restful night in the luxurious Kigali Serena Hotel, the family traveled northwest to the green hills of Volcanoes National Park. They settled into the beautiful Bisate Lodge, which occupies a scenic natural amphitheater in the cone of an extinct volcano, and enjoyed the views over the alpine forests of the park.
The family embarked on a trek through the bamboo forest on a safari to encounter troops of endangered mountain gorillas, truly one of the world’s great wildlife experiences. After their hikes, they savored some pampering time in the lodge’s wonderful spa.
Mount Bisoke
Grab your hiking boots and trek to the 12,175-foot summit of the Mount Bisoke volcano on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Nursery Visit and Tree Planting
Spend an unforgettable afternoon at the lodge’s reforestation nursery where you’ll meet an expert agronomist, learn about the nursery’s work and plant a sapling.
Nairobi, Kenya
From Kigali, the family flew to Nairobi, Kenya and stayed at Giraffe Manor: a one-of-a-kind lodge.
Surrounded by 1930s charm, they enjoyed spending time with the wild giraffes that live on the grounds of this boutique property. On an excursion, the family visited the nearby David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust where they had the opportunity to get up close and personal with baby elephants.
Karen Blixen Museum
Immerse yourself in the world of the Danish author who wrote Out of Africa as you visit the Karen Blixen home-turned-museum, which was once the centerpiece of an expansive farm.
Massage and Afternoon Tea
Book a soothing treatment from the lodge’s in-house massage therapist and then soak up the views of the Ngong Hills from the terrace at sunset.
Masai Mara, Kenya
After bidding farewell to Nairobi, the family flew on to the plains of the Masai Mara and their home base, the Olare Mara Kempinski, a spectacular tented camp that combines classic elegance with true luxury.
Over the next few days, they set off on private luxury safari game drives in search of lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs and, of course, the thousands of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles that make up the Great Migration. Special touches included sundowner cocktails and canapés in the bush, breakfast on the savannah, horseback excursions and a visit to a local Masai village.
Hot Air Balloon Ride
Begin your day in unforgettable style as you sip champagne and then rise above the plains as the animals are just waking up.
A Walking Luxury Safari
Venture into the wilderness on foot with an expert guide who can introduce you to the often-hidden world of African trees, flowers, insects and smaller animals.
Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania
A quick flight took the family from Kenya into Tanzania and their breathtaking lodge overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Home to the densest concentration of predators on the continent, the crater feels like a world unto itself. The family continued another chapter of their luxury African safari tour across the floor of the ancient caldera in search of elephants, lions, rhinos, hippos, pink flamingoes, buffalo, jackals and nearly 400 species of colorful birds. They also took a day trip to Lake Manyara National Park where they traversed the treetop walkway and explored the forest canopy in the company of monkeys, birds and butterflies.
Learn with the Bushmen
Learn the basics of traditional hunting and delve into the secrets of the forest with expert Hadzabe Bushmen hunters on this unique expedition.
Hike Empakai Crater
Walk through the lush forest on your way to the bottom of a volcanic caldera and the shores of the deep, alkaline Empakai Lake. On your way, search for blue monkey, buffalo, bushbuck, waterbuck and tropical birds.
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
For the last leg of their luxury African tour, the family flew to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe where they checked into their grand accommodations, the historic Victoria Falls Hotel.
While here, the family experienced the majesty of the falls from several perspectives. A private helicopter tour took them high above “the smoke that thunders,” while a swimming excursion to Devil’s Pool gave them a close-up view of the incredible cascades. They capped their experience with a private Zambezi River sunset cruise where they reminisced about their journey and started planning their next adventure.
Market Visit
Join your private guide for an intimate visit to a vibrant local market where you can browse the arts and crafts for sale and search for that special something to commemorate your journey.
