Custom Small Group Travel: Indonesia
Two adult sisters planned a girls’ getaway—leaving their husbands and children at home—to reconnect during a vacation that offered a mix of adventure and pampering. After talking to the women about their travel needs and desires, our travel consultant developed this exciting itinerary, which you could use as a starting point for your own custom journey.
Yogyakarta, Java
The sisters arrived to Yogyakarta via their favorite international air carriers and were escorted to their luxurious resort hotel, situated in the verdant rain forest of central Java. Offering views of the spectacular temple of Borobudur, the forested Menoreh Hills, the farmlands of the Kedu Plain and the steep volcanoes in the distance, the Amanjiwo was the perfect setting for the beginning of their Indonesian adventure.
During their stay, they explored the 9th-century UNESCO World Heritage Buddhist temple, visited a nearby village and sustainable plantation, cycled through the gorgeous countryside, and saw the sights in Yogyakarta with their expert private guide.
Art Tour
Central Java is one of Indonesia’s richest and most diverse art regions. Visit local villages to see traditional art, architecture, music, dance and celebrations.
Mandi Lulur Spa Treatment
Pamper yourself with a full-body indulgence that includes a soothing massage; a body mask and exfoliation of white turmeric, honey, and rice grains; and a warm herbal bath.
Ubud, Bali
From Yogyakarta, the sisters flew to the magical island of Bali and their elegant resort, the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, which lies in an idyllic location overlooking the Ayung River just minutes from the artistic capital of Ubud.
While on Bali, the sisters met with an artist at a private workshop, learned how to cook some Balinese specialties, took private sunrise yoga lessons, indulged themselves with a series of treatments at the blissful spa, and enjoyed a VIP experience at a local dance show, with a chance to don traditional garb and immerse themselves in local culture with a private dance lesson.
Farm Immersion
Spend an unforgettable day in the life of a Balinese farmer as you experience the local ways of planting rice, enjoy a breakfast and lunch featuring traditional cuisine, and participate in a guided bathing ritual.
Bali Reptile Park
Embark on a visit to the most complete collection of reptiles in Southeast Asia, including a 24-foot-long reticulated python, a multitude of monitor lizards, and a host of magnificent Komodo dragons.
Seminyak, Bali
For their last stop in Indonesia, the sisters headed to their seafront resort on the golden sands of legendary Seminyak Beach.
While here, the sisters enjoyed a guided visit to the venerated Hindu temple of Tanah Lot, which lies just offshore on a small island. They embarked on a day trip via private boat to the islet of Nusa Lembongan where they swam and snorkeled with tropical fish and manta rays. Back on Seminyak, they took private surf lessons and relaxed on the beach. As the capstone to their adventure, they enjoyed a special dinner with a member of the Balinese royal family at his private home.
Golf
Play 18 holes on the internationally renowned Bali Nirvana Golf Club, which boasts exceptional views of the temple at Tanah Lot.
Elephant Bathing and Care
Enjoy an interactive experience with elephants in their bathing lake as you join them for their morning bath. Be among the elephants as they play, splash and dunk in their bathing lake, one of their favorite rituals of their day, where you will have to opportunity to wash and feed the elephants in a spectacular and personal setting.
