Luxury Romantic Honeymoon: Madagascar
A groom-to-be had a fascinating proposal: he wanted to surprise his bride with a romantic honeymoon trip to Madagascar. The challenge for our travel consultant was to find the most romantic locations in this far flung, exotic, yet still wild destination. This itinerary could inspire your own romantic journey.
Paris, France
They began in Paris at the contemporary Le Royal Monceau Raffles, where the couple found Parisian-themed gifts with personal messages from their travel consultant. The next day they explored a little-known section of the catacombs, enjoyed a Parisian cuisine tasting tour, and visited the atelier of an up-and-coming designer. This was followed by a private cruise on the Seine with dinner at a chic local bistro.
In the morning they browsed galleries with a notable art critic and visited a local chef for a hands-on cooking class in his home. After lunch, they headed to the airport where the wife learned their bags had secretly already been packed for a journey to Madagascar, a dream of hers for years.
Biking the Gardens of Versailles
Versailles is a gigantic parklike estate with a number of lesser-known residences and follies galore. Pedal the grounds with your expert guide to discover Marie Antoinette’s get-away from her life at Versailles, a farm where she retreated with her closest ladies in waiting. We can also arrange a picnic or excursion into the village for lunch.
Couture & Pose
Provide your measurements and answer a questionnaire in advance and we’ll have your one-of-a-kind garment created by an up-and-coming designer. Meet the designer in his or her atelier as your garment is fitted for its debut. In two days your couture will be in your room along with a hair and makeup team. Strut your stuff from graffiti-filled alleyways to romantic Eiffel Tower locations as a professional photographer captures each perfect pose.
Antananarivo – Isalo National Park, Madagascar
After a night in a boutique hotel in the suburbs of Antananarivo, the couple awoke to the sounds of local birdcall. Their guide escorted them to the airport for their chartered flight to the Jurassic wonderland of Isalo National Park.
Arriving at the Isalo Rock Lodge, our intrepid couple enjoyed lunch and a catnap. Later, their guide met them and took them to an arched rock formation known as Giorgio’s Window, where cocktails and snacks were laid for them to experience their first sunset in Madagascar.
They spent the next two days in the national park with their guide spotting lemur and chameleon, hiking among the sandstone formations and kayaking the canyons.
Hiking to the Canyon des Singes & Piscine Naturelle
Embark on a hike through the Canyon des Singes (Canyon of Monkeys) to discover ring-tailed lemurs and Sifaka lemurs. Continue to the Piscine Naturelle where a natural stone cave overlooks a crystal-clear waterfall.
Star Gazing
Journey to the top of a spectacular mountain, enjoy a mouthwatering meal, sip a cocktail, watch the breathtaking sunset and gaze at the stars in the southern skies.
Toliara
Our couple departed to see the remnants of a sapphire mine where we had a surprise arranged: a delightful sapphire charm bracelet for her. Continuing through Zombitse-Vohibasia National Park, the couple admired massive baobab trees and a variety of exotic orchids.
Before evening, they checked into Bakuba, a lodge conceived by Bruno Decorte, Belgian designer and decorator. Upon entering their uniquely themed room, they found a bucket of ice-cold beer and a little wooden carved lemur.
During their days at Bakuba, our couple indulged in massages, explored fishing villages and learned about Madagascar’s spice trade with a local horticulturist. Our consultant surprised the couple with an ultra-romantic dinner set on a rooftop tower.
ATV Excursion
Pass traditional fishing villages as you ride along the edge of the Indian Ocean, through splendid sandy dunes and arid expanses while discovering the unique flora (and perhaps even fauna) of the region.
Musée Cedratom
You’ll need your expert local guide and the inside access provided by TCS World Travel to visit this tiny oft-closed museum, which features exhibits on local culture, an elephant bird egg and other oddities, including an ancient mask with real human teeth.
Nosy Komba
Our newlyweds left Bakuba on a chartered flight north to Nosy Komba, home to the acclaimed Tsara Komba lodge. After their private flight and boat ride, they entered their villa to discover breathtaking views and a few surprise touches from their travel consultant.
Over the next few days, the honeymooners dined on the beach, took a guided hike to a glorious lookout, explored the coastline on a private boat, snorkeled to their heart’s content and relaxed in their villa. Their evenings included a privately guided stargazing expedition and midnight strolls along the surf line.
Scuba Diving
Discover the magnificent sea life in this unspoiled paradise, which can include encounters with whale sharks on their migrations.
Village Excursion
Take a guided expedition to the village of Ampangorina where the women embroider tablecloths and the men produce woodcarvings. Meet the artists and watch them work while learning about their lives.
Ampangorina
On the advice of our travel consultant, the husband saved the best for last. Our couple settled into their sea-facing villa at Le Lodge Anjajavy and once again discovered a thoughtful touch from their consultant: a miniature silver dancing lemur charm for her and a handsome silk tie for him.
The couple explored secret coves and beaches, relaxed by the pool and pampered themselves with luxurious treatments at the spa. On their final night, they enjoyed an unforgettable dinner with local villagers, musicians and dancers. The newlyweds taught everyone how to craft simple floating candle boats from flowers, leaves, shells and driftwood. Soon, the pool became a giant lantern, awash with the glow of the twinkling candles.
Explore the Nature Reserve
Join your private guide to explore the trails of the private nature reserve of Anjajavy, which hosts more than 1,800 species of plants, many found only in Madagascar.
Sailing
Take to the sea on a fully skippered catamaran to discover hidden coves, secret coral reefs and deserted beaches.
